The Safe Degrees, and the Risky Ones.
Read before you lock in a major
The World Economic Forum's 2025 Future of Jobs report put a number on the anxiety every student feels. By 2030, AI and technology will displace around 92 million jobs and create about 170 million new ones, a net gain, but a churn that reshapes nearly a quarter of all work. Choosing a degree in 2026 is really a bet on which side of that line you want to be on. Here is where the safest, and the riskiest, bets sit.

Where the risk actually sits

Risk levels are indicative, based on WEF and labour-market analysis. No degree is fully safe or fully doomed; how you use AI matters as much as what you study.
Even the safe bets have a catch
Computer Science is the clearest example. Graduates who only learn to code are exposed, generative AI writes code now. But those who understand systems design, security, ethics and how people actually use technology are in higher demand than ever. The pattern across every safe field is the same: real people, real problems, and judgement AI cannot copy.

No. The report's real message is that 39 per cent of today's skills will be outdated by 2030, so what you add matters more than your job title. Whatever you study, learn to use AI as a tool, and build the human skills, communication, judgement, working with people, that it cannot replace.
